World Contraception Day 2024

#WorldContraceptionDay commemorates the importance of contraception globally. More than 100 countries have access to over-the-counter (OTC) birth control pills, and the United States joined that list earlier this year with the launch of Opill, the first-ever OTC daily birth control pill in the US. Opill is now available on store shelves and online at retailers across the country, making it the most effective type of birth control available without a prescription in the US.

This year will be the first World Contraception Day with an OTC birth control pill available in the United States, so we'll be celebrating Free the Pill's role in this historic advancement in contraceptive access, spreading the word about Opill, and doubling down on our efforts to ensure insurance coverage and expand affordability measures.

💊 Here’s how you can take action on Thursday, September 26: 💊

  • Post on your social media platforms throughout the day using #FreeThePill and #WorldContraceptionDay and reshare content from Free the Pill's Instagram, X/Twitter, and Facebook

  • Share your voice by letting us know why over the counter access to contraceptives is important to you or your community. Fill out our Free the Pill Voices survey for the chance to be featured on social media, or post to your own channels and tag us!

  • Amplify our evidence-based resources to combat mis- and dis-information and ensure your communities have the resources they need to make informed decisions about their reproductive health—we'll be launching new resources in collaboration with our partners on September 26, so stay tuned!
