World Contraception Day 2022

This event has passed. Check out our World Contraception Day 2022 story highlights on Instagram

In less than 10 months, the FDA could make a decision on whether to approve the first-ever application for an over-the-counter birth control pill! So, we’re taking to social media in recognition of World Contraception Day on September 26 to amplify our vision of a future where safe and effective birth control pills are accessible to everyone who wants or needs them—a future with over-the-counter (OTC) birth control pills that are affordable, fully covered by insurance, and available to people of all ages in the United States.

Here’s how you can join us:

  • Show your support by posting on social media throughout the day using the #FreeThePill and #WorldContraceptionDay hashtags, and resharing content from Free the Pill’s social platforms

  • Join our Tweetstorm from 2-3pm ET to share why you are part of the movement to #FreeThePill and what it would mean for you or your community to have birth control pills right on the shelf at your local drugstore

  • Head over to the National LGBTQ Task Force’s Instagram account (@thetaskforce) from 3-4pm ET for a Free the Pill takeover to highlight the need for OTC birth control pills and the impact they could have for LGBTQ+ folks

  • Share findings from Advocates for Youth’s 2022 Oral Contraceptives Access Survey, which surveyed 243 people from 43 states about their experiences trying to access birth control pills as young people and young adults

  • Invite your friends, family, and colleagues to join the movement to #FreeThePill
